A Roll of Toilet Paper Make all the Difference

Monday, October, 13, 2008

I found myself in a precarious position the other day. Knowing I was almost out of toilet paper but had not had time to hit up the grocery store I tested the gods and went to the bathroom anyway. Don’t give me that look, I had to go! Yes, I know you can use paper towels or napkins, but there is something about having that roll when and where you need it. Of course I used the very last which wasn’t quite enough, so on my way to the kitchen for paper towels with a noted slump in my walk, I check under the bathroom sink anyway, just in case and you would not believe what I found! One roll of toilet paper. One beautiful, brand new, still in the wrapping roll of toilet paper. =) This was such a happy moment. I know this seems odd, but there is something about being fully stocked with paper products that makes me feel good. I’m not sure if it’s security, a feeling of success because I have “stock” or what but I do seem to sleep better when I know I have paper products. There have been some slim times in the past when paper products were actually considered a luxury! There wasn’t always enough money for them therefore I would have to snag a roll from work here and there. I am not ashamed of these times in life because they made me who I am and help me to appreciate where I am today with humility. True, these lean times instilled in me a strange attachment to toilet paper, but if you can enjoy and appreciate the little things in life then you are much more successful and rich than those who take that roll for granted. A friend of mine reminded me recently of that old joke; Life is like a roll of toilet paper, the closer you get to the end the faster it goes…Enjoy your roll.

lol I have this "thing" about running out of toilet paper. I just cannot and will not allow it to happen. It is almost like an ultimate fear for me, and I know that sounds crazy but like you said, there is just something about having it where and when you need it.

I also have a weird obssession about not running of toilet paper- I buy either 24 or 36 rolls at a time! And I have a variation on your toilet paper joke that a guy friend wrote in my 9th grade yearbook: May your life be like a roll of toilet paper- long and useful. :)
