Skirt! is evidence that the universe is paying attention: I spent the last six years at mach speed, whether finishing college (Emerson) while writing full time for Boston Globe West (2001-2004) or editing the Boston Parents’ Paper during the day while holding down the steady gig writing for Globe ...

Blogging Mojo

Friday, October, 10, 2008

So, I’m going to the BlogHer Conference tomorrow, and starting my Saturday morning off with a bang at a session that says it will help me figure out my blogging mojo.

ahem?

Since my kids are mostly grown (enough to get their own cereal and ignore my pleas not to eat it in front of a DVR’d marathon of House episodes) ... I generally don’t have such existential thoughts on a Saturday morning. Unless, of course, there’s something truly spectacular for sale – spectacular enough for me to navigate the roads on just one or two cups of caffeine. (and that’s mostly instinct-driven, minus deep thoughts about how the shoes/outfit/gadget is going to fulfill my inner mojo.)

So, things to consider for the conference: the goal of my blog. My blog is s’posed to have a goal? Geez, I never thought of it that way. One speaker will address professionally-focused blogs. Oops, mine rarely slips into that territory.

Perhaps, looking at the agenda, I’ll have the opportunity to meet some cool local women who blog. Maybe even someone who works in the same company I do. Imagine that!

As long as they get all  of the necessary caffeine, the following people are supposed to speak in the morning session:

Lisa Stone moderates this discussion with Lisa Williams, the creator of H2OTown and a leader in the PlaceBlogging (or hyperlocal) media movement, GateHouse Media New England's director of online content development Sarah Corbitt, the Boston Globe's Director of Community Publishing, Teresa Hanafin and Emmy-nominated journalist/documentarian and current MIT media researcher Colleen Kaman

And by afternoon, we’ll know all about food blogging (you won’t be subjected to my cooking in reality, for which you should say a little prayer of thanks) and how to find our audiences. Will I need a flashlight for that? Because I often wonder who has time to consider the vacant ramblings that tumble from my keyboard.

Actually, I like Liz’s blog (here on skirt: http://boston.skirt.com/node/20994), I get all of the food info I need from a reliable source – Clare (http://farmaid.blogspot.com/2008/09/clare-meets-farmers-in-farmyard.html)  and Meredith O’Brien’s blogs and printed musings rarely fail to amuse:
