Case of the Mean Reds

Thursday, October, 9, 2008

One of my fictional heroes, Holly Golightly, suffered occasionally from a case of the mean reds. When they hit her, she ate flaky, buttery croissants and window shopped at Tiffanys in a fabulous little black dress.

I have a case of the mean reds today. But they just feel like a pity party. Work is hell. I haven't heard back from some editors I pitched. I fought with my husband this morning –about potato chips. And my office mate is flaunting her new Tory Burch boots.

So while Holly's mean reds had a layer of glamour to them, mine just seem pathetic. On my lunch break today, I will buy a greasy double cheeseburger from the dollar menu at McDonalds and go to DSW to walk among the discount shoes, wearing my TJ Maxx wardrobe.

Don't worry about me. I'll be just fine.

Liz, this cracked me up. I'm having a "mean red" day, too... thanks to a body that just won't pay attention to the blasted calendar and do what it's SUPPOSED to do. Have some grease for me, too... and who cares if it's TJM if it's colorful? (Gotta admit... red ain't boring... just occasionally, as in my case this morning, unfortunate!) ;-) "Trust Life's unfolding..."

so many women would (do!) use the Mean Reds as a reason to go wild... like you, I haunt the office vending machine, trying to keep myself from getting the Really Big Hershey bar, and try to work a visit to Loehman's into the schedule of delivering kids to soccer and dance.. no Tiffany's for me, but maybe I'll splurge on chinese takeout instead of suffering through my own cooking.

Krispy Kreme donuts are good for the Mean Reds lol... I walked around TJ Maxx just the other day feeling slightly depressed over this, that and just about everything. I ended up grabbing things I knew I shouldn't be buying only to stand in the long line for ten minutes and then get impatient and put it all back. lol

My rule on TJ Maxx: because the checkout process is always so horrible, and sometimes rage inducing, unless I have at least two items that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, I pass.

Sometimes a little bauble (silver) from Tiffany's helps with the mean red's.
