I am continually inspired by the story of Ophelia (Shakespeare’s character in Hamlet) but rather than heavy dresses, I envision her with wings. I liken her to a butterfly, once wrapped in a cocoon of dresses, she emerges forth with new vision & voice. I am no good at small talk but I enjoy explori...

live small, love big

Dear babes & beauties: Normally, I love to ponder the "big" questions - "what is my passion?" "what is my purpose?" - although, yesterday I was listening to a local music radio program & a DJ was interviewing a singer in studio & had asked him where he was from & about his lifestyle on the road. He responded saying he didn't have a home at this time & a nomadic lifestyle is "over-rated." He missed the concept of home & the comforts of feeling safe & comfortable. Even though he was a nomad in the sense that he music tour took him places far & wide, he wasn't on a vision quest or in search of a big answer. The DJ responded in agreement that our generation has been taught to expect big, grandiose gestures of happiness rather than the everyday small, simple gestures of happiness. I know that I'll never answer the big questions. For me, those questions are intended as a check & balance, but I needed the reminder that happiness can be found in the small, simple answers too:

where is home? a happy, red house with a puppy who'll be so excited to see me she'll pee herself & my husband who is my best friend & partner through thick & thin

what's for lunch? food!

who cares about me & my well-being? a multitude of family members, friends, co-workers & caregivers

Happiness & fulfillment are often the bread crumbs of life -- try not to sweep them away, they may lead you to exactly where you need to be!

Tracy, thank you for always allowing me to ponder your deep thoughts! I continually think about my purpose here on earth. Perhaps, this is why I write. I come back, contiually, to the simple things as you mentioned. I come back to the beautiful things: my home, tabby cats, my husband, my children, the purple wild flowers growing outside my door, my mom calling me at 6:00 PM, the chocolate chip cookies baking in the oven. Oh, This makes me soooo happy. Thanks for helping me put things in perspective! :)

If you can't be thankful for the "little things", then you'll never know the magnitude of a "big thing". And, sometimes when you look back, you realize the "little things" happening were small parts of a "big thing".

Great post!
