It's All About YOU!

Monday, October, 6, 2008

Looking back at my blogs I noticed they are all about ME, which is getting a bit boring…so today my blog will be about “You”.   The following will be my perception about what I think I know or have learned about the “Skirt Girls” on this site, you.  If you are not here, it is only because I do not feel as if I know you well enough to write about you yet. Please let me into your world.

This page is dedicated to all of “YOU!”

~Jodine—Professor Jodine is a scholar, whom can let her hair down and have a good time.  She has several manuscripts she wants to complete, and she will eventually do this when time allows.  She is a busy mama, and rather than watch grown up movies such as Juno, she is watching those superb Disney movies we all watch or have watched with our own children.  Her blogs are well thought out, interesting, and mean something.  I would have liked Jodine as my professor at the College of Saint Scholastica; she would have taught me a thing or two!

~Renee—I was immediatly drawn to Renee from her photo on Skirt. I like how she looks, that’s all there is to it.  Renee is a tough cookie, and I swear, I’d want this girl as my advocate, on my team, or as an activist (for any cause) on my side of the issue. Her passion rises off of the page-directly into your face, and her words will make a difference for individuals and families suffering with autism.  She is a spit-fire. (Check Renee’s blog to find out where to buy her new book, “The One.”

~Sarah—Is a survivor.  She is the “Muse of the Month” because she is worthy of the title.  Sarah is an inspiration for every woman on the Skirt site.  She is happy and savors life even while she was in the midst of her battle with cancer.  I have told Sarah that her blogs are like warm, fuzzy pajamas one wants to slide on, and I look forward to reading each one to get my smile on for that particular day.  Oh, and she is zealous promoter of the Target Chains….this is where one may find her strolling around all googley eyed with her cart!

~Charlene—Knows exactly where the reader’s funny bone is located.  She will find it, and make you laugh even if you’re in a bad mood.  The reader will exclaim, “Oh, yeah, I’ve been there.  I’ve done that!”  She is the Ellen Degeneres of blogs, and I assume the funniest person in the special Ed department at her school.  I refer to Charlene as the hot mama, because she will be hit on by every waiter in the restaurant, even though she’s a wife, mother, and forty-something!

~Cheryl—I feel as if I’ve known Cheryl my entire life, and perhaps I have.  She is the cheerleader for every blog on this great site.  If you look at any post, you will see Cheryl’s encouraging words spurring the writers on, and giving all of them little hugs and kisses. Here’s how she writes:  She takes out her heart while it’s still beating and utilizes it instead of her fingers. I am continually moved.

~Amy—Amy was the first photo I noticed on Skirt four months ago, and I was like, “What the hell, do they have super models writing blogs now?”  But after I read her work, I realized my first impression was dead wrong.  Not only did this girl look like a star, but she wrote like one, too.  Her words are like a river flowing, music rushing, and poetry wrapping around one’s mind.

~TaraIs so beautifully honest.  She talks about God, church, integrity, Father Blue Eyes, and her struggles with everyday life.  Oh, I love the idea that I’m not alone in the world.  I appreciate when Tara writes about issues that we can all identify with.  I want to shout,” That’s me, too! I know what you’re talkin’ about!” Tara is a girl after my own heart. I only wish she would display her own face instead of Grace Kelly, because she is much more gorgeous than Grace!

~Elizabeth—She is the flower child of Skirt!  I imagine her at Woodstock chillin’ with Hendrix and Joplin and Santana.  I imagine that as a “life coach,” Elizabeth would be insightful, kind, generous, and bring any individual to the place they were intended to be.  Even if one believes differently about her political beliefs, they will still want to read what she has to say because of her great enthusiasm and knowledge.

~Tina—I am just getting to know her, but I know this:  she lifts up her friends and gives them wings. And this sort of friend, everybody desires!  Tina’s writing is witty and crisp, and like Charlene, she will have the reader laughing in spite of themselves. She is the eye-rolling-mom, whom I assume reveals that extreme “Mom Look when she needs to!

~Vanessa—Another writer (yes, you are a writer) whom I am just getting acquainted with. One thing that I always appreciate is a girl with humor. Vanessa is another Skirt girl, whom acquires this gift. Vanessa has told me she hasn’t written since high school, and I find this hard to believe.  It’s a little annoying if you want the truth, since I write everyday!  And here she comes on Skirt with that something special, regardless.

I wanted all of you to know that I am changed because of your stories, words, humor, stimulation, knowledge, struggles, adventures, and lives. I am better.  I am blooming. I am smiling. I am laughing.  I am moved beyond words.   This song will express what I am trying to say……Thank you. Thank you.  Thank you.

THANK YOU KIM! Wow, what an amazing blog. Well, let's turn it around and make it about you. I think you are a great writer (and I can't believe you can come up with enough topics to blog every day - that in itself is amazing to me!) I love your use of metaphors and similes - they paint a beautiful picture. You are obviously a true and loyal (and amazingly fun friend!) You have a heart the size of the sun (as evidenced by today's blog) and it's obvious you would stop EVERYTHING to help a friend in need. And you love to laugh and let loose - I love your energy. Thank you Kim for lifting all of us up. You are a true gift and I am so thankful for you.

So NOT like Ms. Narcissistic at all! I really believe we learn so much about each other through our words and what an awesome group of women to share our words with. These days I open up my skirt bookmark before anything else and get inspired for the day. As much as I love reading these words, I would absolutely be thrilled for some face time, giggles and swapping of juicy stories, tears of joy and honesty. The toughest writing is often the honest writing and how better to start off friendships than through words. Thanks for your words of wisdom, fantastic humor and honesty. I believe I learned a little more about each person and can't wait to read everyone's writing.

Kim, YOU'RE a woman after MY heart! You're too sweet, really. I would love to put my actual face up here, but I'm trying to maintain somewhat of a "secret identity." If certain people read some of my blogs, they would be mortified or pissed or a combination of the two. But thank you so much for your kind words. I love your blogs more than you'll ever know. You never fail to make me bust a gut, shed a tear, or some other emotion. You are truly gifted! :)

elizabeth cassidy, CC Creative Life and Career Transition Coach kim, that was just such a great blog. I knew from the first few blogs that I read by you that what we have here is an old soul living in a new body. One of fave words to describe you would be "sassy." You are one sassy girl and are we lucky! Made me tear up! I think all of the Skirt! girls are fabulous and my blogs make me realize that I have the courage of my convictions and that so do you all. To bring back on of the best parts of the late 60s - SISTERHOOD IS POWERFUL!" elizabeth P.S. my first blog as a life coach starts today. I hope it will be helpful, fun and inspiring. Or else I will go back to Ms. Palin. :-)

When we were young, we collected girlfriends like jacks. (Yes, I know I'm dating myself. Wait... that sounded odd...) We could always count on one or three or seven to be scattered around us, ready to be swept into our games and whispers about boys. We felt INCLUDED. Somehow, growing older and wrestling life and family and work and schedules and traffic into the mix, many of us lost that easy connection with other women. I miss that and it is what you and the other skirt!girls have restored to my world. You and I and several others have become fast friends and it is so like you to remind us yet again why this friendship is so very wonderful. It is all about heart and genuinely being there for each other, no matter what. I could just see you smiling as you wrote about each of us... and you could see us smiling... what a great gift you have just given! Thank you! xoxox P.S. After replying, I just bawled all the way thru that video of the tribute after 9/11 and I echo Bette Midler... THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! "Trust Life's unfolding..."

I wish half the people I know were half as boring as you claim to be. Here's why I get a kick out of you: In my mind you're always wearing Cheryl's cheerleader skirt (especially behind closed doors with that guy with the British accent)and ready to raise hell. Don't ever stop telling your stories. :)

You're such a doll and SO not uninteresting. Girl, puh-leeze! Being able to see the GOOD in the world is what makes it seem brighter. You're definitely one of my shining stars.

Oh, Kim! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I've been out for a while now and am just now getting around to reading this. Your sentiments about the other Skirt gals echo mine and, indeed, I believe that the group of women on here are amazing women, amazing writers and I consider myself lucky to have been accepted into the flock. I *always* love your writing, your humor and cherish your "e-friendship." I almost always find myself wishing that you lived closer and that were "real-life" friends. Your warmth, compassion and boisterous personality always gets to the heart of me. . .and I (heart) you for that! xoxo
