Right about now I start to panic about Christmas gifts, because I don’t think I’m very good at anticipating what other people might like, only what I might like. I love lists in magazines, like “50 Best Gifts of 2007” and scour them for ideas. So I decided I’d start my own this year. Here’s the first installment.
Print Gocco: These miniature screen printing kits are almost impossible to find because the Japanese manufacturer decided to stop making them. I have one of my own, but I want to buy one for a friend and also stock up on inks, screens and bulbs. If you can find one, snap it up.
Caramels with Salt: Dark-chocolate-covered golden caramels sprinkled with gray sea salt--unbelievably delicious. I hear Fran’s Chocolates in Seattle makes a yummy version. www.franschocolates.com.
Cashmere socks: Who wouldn’t like these socks in their stocking?! Garnet Hill offers a relatively inexpensive version. $24.00 each for the ankle socks.
Hillary stuff: My liberal friends need a “Let’s Elect the Bitch” bumper sticker. Shame, shame McCain!
more to come all month long...

Holiday gift giving has gotten out of control. For people who want to give gifts that are not excessive, choose handmade gifts or gifts made from recycled materials. Gift giving also creates unnecessary waste. Gift wrap & cardboard tubes, tissue paper, ribbons, bows, gift bags, boxes, greeting cards and envelopes can all be recycled at your closest recycling center. UPS and FedEX will gladly take packing peanuts and other packing materials as well. Keep it green, handmadegifts.com.
