Hello 3AM!
My new old friend, it’s been years since I’ve seen you. Though I can’t say I’m at all happy about it, I’ve seen 3AM, 4AM, 5AM and 6AM every night (well, technically morning) this week.
Ugh, and I thought insomnia was a thing of my past. It appears I was wrong. It’s not the where am I going with my life, why did I say that (after too many cocktails), why did I do that (again, alcohol related) insomnia I experienced years ago in college. It’s just the can’t find a comfortable position kind of insomnia coupled with the to do list in your head type.
And let me be the first to tell you that I’m not capable of functioning on no sleep. Some people, namely my mother who considers herself lucky to get a few measly hours of shut-eye a night, can conquer the world on no sleep. I, on the other hand, am a worthless, irritable, sobbing mess on less than six hours.
I know there are others who toss and turn, consider getting up for the day but fight the urge, think about what they need to do today, tomorrow and this year, turn on the TV to find nothing but infomercials and morning workout programs, toss and turn some more, until oooh, it’s time to get up (which is both exciting and defeating). Oh, I feel so sorry for you. I wouldn’t wish insomnia on my worst enemy (no more than a week of it at least).
I hope my insomniac status is just temporary (though it could be more permanent with a crying baby) but if anyone has any pointers (other than counting sheep-totally worthless!), as always, I love hearing from you and your advice is most welcome!

Everyone prepares you for the lack of sleep after the baby, but I was not prepared for the lack of sleep during pregnancy!! I drank "Mama Calm" before bed - not only did it help with my antsy legs, but it also put me right to sleep. http://www.petergillham.com/product-line/peter-gillhams-kids-calm.php#ba...
Good luck!
