File this one under “What the Hell Was I Thinking?” and “Skirt! Boston Editor Alison Murray is Much Smarter Than Me.”

It’s Fashion Week in Boston and Alison and I are attending events throughout the week. Alison had planned to attend a ladies luncheon and fashion show on Friday at high end mall, the Natick Collection. Me? I signed up for the La Perla fashion show last night at the Intercontinental Boston hotel. What the hell was I thinking?

I. Went. To. A. Lingerie. Fashion. Show. Does that make me brave and brazen or mad and masochistic?

The pieces in La Perla’s 2008 Fall Winter Collection were gorgeous. I especially loved the Black Label print silk pajamas and the “Jeffer” fur wrap. But it would have been wiser for me to admire them in a catalog while lying on my couch surrounded by Dora and Diego toys wearing my Big Papi t-shirt and yoga pants. I really didn’t need to be sitting next to the runway wearing my Lady Grace specials surrounded by size negative models from Dynasty Models.

The woman seated next to me at the show was a real-sized person like me. “What was I thinking coming here?” she whispered to me as a model strutted past us wearing a lace bra, thong and four, maybe five, inch heels. “I will never eat again.”

“Me neither,” I replied. “At least not until I get home tonight.”

not smarter

There's no way I'm smarter by staying away from the La Perla show... I'm just chicken. I don't wear that stuff in my own boudoir and couldn't sit there and watch other women strutting about in their undies. It would take a week of intensive chocolate therapy to recover! Question: what part of lingerie is fashion? If you're not out there wearing it for the world to see (which apparently only wafer-thin models are able to do ), is it still fashion?

I swear off food every time

I swear off food every time I see a model. And then I reneg. I mean, eclairs are just too beautiful to deny! Besides, have you ever seen a model's face while they watch YOU sink your teeth into something delicious? They either light up a ciggy or hate you (but are too weak from hunger to tell you so). He he he. You are beautiful as you are - even in your Big Papi T and yoga pants. Ha ha ha! xoxo
