I’ve been following the news regarding Galveston. Some people opted not to leave, even though the evacuation of this area was mandatory. So now rescuers are being called in to help evacuate people and to put out fires, etc.. The water has gone over the sea wall and most of Galveston is flooded. Sometimes it’s important to follow the rules.
We live 56.44 miles from Galveston. Lovely!
Seriously, we decided to ride out the storm and my husband is worried now that maybe we should have left . The thing is, we weren’t in an evacuation area and the city asked that people stay put if they weren’t in an evacuation area. The reason was to make it easier for others to evacuate. They didn’t want a repeat of Rita.
So here we are. It’s the quiet before the storm. We went outside and saw some wind, but nothing too significant. Not yet! The storm is HUGE and it’s going to start really affecting us here The hurricane is 600 miles wide, if you haven’t read that already! It’s not too far right now. When looking on the interactive map you can see that the outskirts of the storm are already touching Houston. It’s going to really hit us hard at 2 a.m. when we’re sleeping. Or not. I have a feeling we will be sitting up waiting to see if we need to run. Like if our house catches on fire or something crazy like that.
My husband says he’s playing Xbox until the power goes out so I told him I was going to write until the power goes out. But I’m still doing laundry too. I want to make sure I get everything washed in case we do lose electricity for a while.
