The Vagina Vote

Women of America: we have been insulted. It’s not news that the Republicans don’t think highly of our decision making skills. They prefer we don’t have a choice when it comes to our own bodies.  But their latest move really stinks of condescension. They seem to believe that if they add a woman to the ticket, any woman, they will win our vote.

The Democrats are not above reproach either. During the Democratic convention a parade of speakers mentioned that they had daughters. Their point? It wasn’t abundantly clear. Did they mean to imply that because they were raising daughters, they knew what was best for women? Or did they think that by implying their daughters backed Obama, we would too? And Senator Obama, in his acceptance speech, said that Hillary was an inspiration to all of our daughters. Well why not to our sons too Senator? Why are we not expecting them to get excited that in the future we will choose our leaders from the best candidates regardless of gender? No longer will we only select from half of the population.

Listen up Washington: women are not voting for or with vaginas. We are voting for the best candidates; for candidates who will respect our rights, hear our voices AND do the best job running our country. I supported Hillary because I believed she was the best candidate for the job. The fact she is a woman made me even more motivated to vote for her. I know this may come as a surprise, but women actually think with more than one body part. When it comes to choosing the next President of the United States we will use both our heads and our hearts.

why don't you just come out and say what's on your mind??? just kidding -- you've got the passion I'm lacking because it's so much of the same old politics. At least Hillary was in there to shake things up. I hope she continues to play a big role and remind Washington that they need to address women's issues and not try to placate us with meaningless rhetoric.

I am sorry to say that it seems many women *will* vote with their vagina. And that would be a sad day. Guess we're headed to our version of the "good 'ol boys" club - except that we're "girls" and acting like it. I had much higher expectations for women. Sigh.
