Okay I confess! I *hate* this part. Whether it's for MySpace or Tribe or worse- a job interview, the open-ended request to talk about myself is painful - like a needle to the eye. Or like a 103 foot drop on a roller coaster. My advice: Read my blogs! You'll get to know me that way...eventually.... ...

The Blue Pacific State Goes Deep Green

Tuesday, September, 2, 2008

While Greensboro only recycles #1 & #2 plastics, several cities in California are going as far as supporting composting on a large scale. I recently visited San Francisco and quite a few cities in Alameda County and was inspired by what I saw. (Alameda County is the home of Oakland, CA.) The programs are simple and effective, saving approximately 35% of waste going into landfills.

What do residents have to do?

Place food scraps in their green yard waste can. Yep, that’s it! Oh- and of course, wheel the can out weekly for pick-up. I bet Greensboro residents could do that!  In fact, I bet Greensboro residents would do whatever it takes...

Question is would the City of Greensboro be willing to do what it takes?

Close your eyes for a moment and imagine how many banana peels, stale bread slices and soiled paper towels you throw away weekly. Wouldn’t you feel great if that were turned into compost for farmers and landscapers instead?

For more information about the programs in San Francisco and Alameda County, check out the links below. These sites are easy on the eyes, easy to follow and have very useful information:

You may get inspired too! If so, please write the City Council and tell them it’s time to get serious about the smelly stuff we unnecessarily throw away every day. This link will take you to all their email addresses:
