September, the beginning of a new school year, is the perfect time for skirt! to publish the RULES issue. Remember adjusting to a new teacher’s new expectations? It always began with the “you’re a year older and shouldn’t act like 4th graders anymore...” talk.
Beyond schooldaze, September remains a month of starts – going back to work, moving to a new place, trying out the latest fall fashions (my rule in regard to that last item is to NEVER try on another babydoll frock again, lest I die of pregnancy flashbacks!).
This month I’ve invited readers to share their rules for living. First in line is Lise Beane (wow, and I didn’t even request alphabetical order!), who wrote, “My mother, who was a writer, died last November and left behind her Rules for Living. Please feel free to use this simple, beneficial and unique set of rules in your publication. My mother had 5 children and knew the contemporary struggles we face. “
Thank you for sharing, Lise. Look around – you’ll see there’s been a shortage of wisdom lately, so we’re happy to do our part.

If you have rules to share, send ‘em in: alisonm@skirtboston.com.
