Have you Been to the Mountains?
By NichelleRae, Saturday, January 28, 2012, 2 commentsSince moving to Denver, Colorado from Pittsburgh, PA the question everyone has asked us since arriving in July is “Have you been to the mountains yet?” As a family, we smile and say “no, but we’re planning to.”
Normally my 15yr old daughter could care less about such things. A few weeks ago she came home announcing we must go to the mountains. “I’m sick of people talking to me about it.” So as any good parent, we went off to the mountains. You know, the mountain you can see from every place you go in Denver, including my backyard. My husband and I are still, and will probably always be, in awe of seeing it as we: drive to the grocery store, drive to church, drive to the light rail station, drive to the gas station, take our daughter to school, go to the post office, go for walks, and take out the trash. Yup, we are awe struck by the awesomeness of seeing the mountain as close as we do.
However, we made reservations, packed up the car and headed west. You know what? It’s even more gosh darn awesome when you get closer. You almost feel like you can touch it with your hand it’s so close. I felt like Heidi. I wanted to go running up the mountain into the arms of my grandfather. Although, my grandpa was more of the suit and tie type it could still work, I guess.
So I am happy to report that now when people ask “have you been to the mountains?” We all answer with a resounding “Oh, Yes! And they were Spectacular!”

Great story! But now people are going to ask you if you ski... when I moved from Colorado to Maryland as a teeenager, that was the only question people had, as if no other activity exists in the state...
OmGoodness!
You are so right! They do ask that. Mostly it's people from the east coast who ask too. The answer is NO. I'm a warm weather outdoor person. I really don't do cold very well. So I'm more like a modern day Annette Funicello - snow bunny all the way.
