What happens in Calgary stays in Calgary. Or does it?
By MissAttitude, Friday, October 17, 2008, 2 commentsLately I've been thinking a lot about cheaters. I've recently learned a couple of friends/acquaintances are cheating on their spouses. And for some reason when I think about cheaters, one person in particular comes to mind. To say he's an ass is putting it mildly in my opinion. Recently I saw him on a commercial and honestly I started hurling nasty comments at the TV. But I'm getting ahead of myself here, let me take you back to the moment when it all became clear I wanted nothing to do with this man despite working with him.
In May 2004, the Tampa Bay Lightning were in the Stanley Cup Finals. I remember it just like yesterday. I was lucky enough to field produce in Calgary for the TV station where I worked at the time.
Unfortunately the group that went included the main sports guy at the time, a man I'd heard tons of smarmy things about. Gossip about him cheating on his wife and sleeping with interns. But until Calgary that was all gossip and none of my business, until we went out for<del datetime="2008-10-18T00:01:25+00:00"> some </del> a lot of drinks. While at the bar Sports Ass, that's what we'll call him here or SA for short, started talking to this very young girl. When I say young, I mean college young. Somehow at some point I wound up talking to her.
At one point, she told me she didn't think she wanted to back to the hotel with SA. So I told her "Then don't." She then said she thought he was married to which I replied, "Yes, he is." Uh hello, he was wearing his wedding ring. I quickly added, "And he has kids." Honestly that was about the extent of the conversation, perhaps me adding that there were probably some other nicer and more available men out there then him. But wait the story gets better.
So it's closing time and we all head toward the door. SA walks over to her and starts to pull her toward the door and I notice she's shaking her head no. He's asking her questions and she's still shaking her head no. I quickly head out the door, not wanting to be caught in the middle of that. Silly me.
I get into the minivan with the rest of the group, all men, and wait. He gets in the front seat and turns around and says to me, "What the fuck did you say to her?" At first I can't believe me ears and can't be 100% sure, but don't think I replied right away. Then he says again, "What the fuck did you say to her?" Hilarity then ensues. All of the guys start giggling and one of them says I cock blocked (SA's real initials here). Then the sports producer, who's in the driver's seat, turns around and says, "Cock block? I'm not familiar with that term." More laughter. And the more we laugh the more red SA's face turns. We drop him off at his hotel (he stayed at the players hotel and we were at one further away) he stomps off.
BTW- the next day he came up to me, and no didn't apologize, but instead asked me not to tell our main anchor who was with us. She had left the bar before all of this played out. I was stunned that was all he was worried about, not that I'd tell his wife or everyone else at work. All I said to him was, "What happens in Calgary stays in Calgary, right?"
Stylishly yours,
