What Escoffier Forgot To Mention: Asia's Street Gem

Hong Kong: Food Nation

Whether it is soup-filled dumplings or sugary doughnuts you like, Hong Kong is a bustling playground for all food lovers. Shop keepers line their stores with bins of "magic” while next door, roasted ducks are hung from rods. You can stop and grab a 4-dollar bowl of steaming ramen and be on your way, or you can sit down and enjoy a spread of dim sum for only a couple dollars more -- the choice is yours. Either way, if you love food, you will love Hong Kong and its affordable eats. Hong Kong draws out your inner adventurer as you walk its bustling food streets. You can find great street food near any night market. Open air shops offer authentic Chinese street food. Two great examples are Tung Choi Street and Temple Street, which run perpendicular to Nathan Road.

There are also numerous offerings of pecking duck. If your feet need a break from walking, Pecking Garden is a great spot located in Star House Mall. This full-service restaurant offers traditional Chinese cuisine and excellent pecking duck. A whole duck can easily satisfy two or three people. White tuxedo wearing men carve each duck table side and serve it with green onions, hoisin sauce, and thin Asian pancakes.  Instead of cake, a must-try dessert is almond jelly. Light and sweet, this refreshing iced jelly with almond flavor and lychee is a perfect end to an Asian feast. After dinner, you can walk across the street and watch the light show along the Hong Kong cityscape. For the next day’s breakfast, plan to take your pick from many bread shops found on almost every street corner.  Choose between pizza-filled bread rolls, pork floss buns, or sugary sweet egg tarts. Your visit is not complete without a Chinese bakery experience. Hong Kong is the food paradise of 21st century food enthusiasts. Not only do locals enjoy dining in this bustling Mecca, tourists arrive from all over the globe.
