The Best Me
By MelissaB, Saturday, August 13, 2011, 6 commentsYesterday, I had lunch with a friend and she told me she thinks I have my life together. I had to laugh because all I've been doing the past couple of weeks is reading books about getting your life together. Isn't it funny how we perceive ourselves so differently than other people do?
I've decided to take a different twist with this blog. For the most part, I'm now going to write about living my best life. Being the best me. My journey to self awareness and ultimately, better self esteem.
In some ways, I do have my life together. My friend is right. When it comes to my career, I couldn't ask for more. I achieved the level of success I sought years ago, so I feel like I can relax a bit in that area of my life.
When it comes to my home, I have it together there too. I no longer feel like my place needs fixing, decorating or organizing. It looks like a home and acts like a home. I spent a lot of time paring down my belongings (especially before moving across the country last year), and then organizing them so that my home is functional for me. Check. Done. I can remove this from my list.
We all have areas for improvement and mine is with me. To the outside person, I probably do look like I have my life together. But, inside my head... I have a lot of work to do.
So, I hope you'll join me on this journey. I plan to share some of the incredible information I've been reading in the plethora of books I read - at least one a week. I can feel myself shifting already and it's a wonderful feeling.
In the end, I want to be the best me all around. I want to know that how I view myself is also how the world views me. I want to finally get over my self critical ways, lose the excess weight once and for all (for real this time), and eventually, let someone in so that I can have the best relationship of my life.
I'm excited to start this journey!

I'm excited for you!
I read How Remarkable Women Lead by Joanna Barsh and Susie Cranston last year and there was a quote in there that I had on my board of inspiration for a long time. They told the story of a successful woman and said “She worked on the assumption that she was capable.” I wondered what my life would look like if I assumed I was capable of doing the things I wanted to do. Many of my roadblocks to success come as a result of me doubting my skill and capability to do the things I want to do. As you begin this new portion of your journey, I want to remind you that you are capable of doing all the great things you want to do. Keep believing in that!! I look forward to hearing more and being inspired by your life!
Thanks, Leah! I love good
Thanks, Leah! I love good books. I actually downloaded it in my kindle and started reading it last night. It's wonderful so far! These are my favorite types of books, so thanks again. =)

Leah, Thank you for this comment on Melissa's post. That quote so touched my heart and spirit. I needed to read it tonight...and there it was. Thank you.
Good for you!
It's pretty good when others' perceive you as having it together and you're still giving yourself room to become an even better you! We need more people like you in this world :-) I'm sure you'll do great things!
