Plowing on!
By mantis, Monday, January 19, 2009, 1 commentsRamblings from a sleep-deprived father:
So we brought our newborn daughter home yesterday to meet our son (17 months).. Things went well, considering he was really interested in looking at her and didn't want to hit her or throw balls at her...
Then we had our first test as new parents of two.. The two kids tag-teamed us from 1:30am to about 6am.. as soon as one was asleep, the other would wake up and vice-versa.. My son finally made it to our bed because he wouldn't go to sleep anywhere else and he'd wake up every time our daughter wanted to eat and was fascinated by it all..
So today I had to do something... despite the fact that it has snowed every other day for the last 3 days, I took my son on a long run in his jog-stroller with my running partner.. We made it about 2 miles on the trail until the snow was so deep that it was virtually impossible to push the stroller.. We then had to return and reroute the run to salvage the day.. Our intended goal was to run 14 miles and we wound up running only about 8, but the first two miles felt like 6, so i guess it worked out.. I definitely feel sore..
The most important part of this experience so far is that we're including all of our family! My wife and daughter bond in their own way while I get to play with my son more than I ever have, since she can't pick him up just yet..
The day culminated when I sat on the couch with my daughter on one arm and my son curled up on my belly sucking his thumb... I didn't want to move, and hoped that time would stop.
