Hot Lips
By Makeup My Fabul..., Sunday, August 29, 2010For several years now, the emphasis has been on the eyes. Smoky, bright, Egyptian and lined, whatever the trend, the eyes have it. But I’ve always been a fan of lipstick. A classic red lip will never go out of style, like day-glo blue shadow might. For those of you stuck in a makeup rut, hankering for a new look, this is for you. It’s time for those hot lips to have their time in the spotlight!
-Start with a fresh, flawless face. (For a step-by-step guide to radiant skin, check out Get Glowing.) Set foundation with a dusting of translucent powder. If you’re super-dry or flaky, skip the powder. Rice papers are a great way to absorb excess oil without adding or smudging makeup.
-Contour cheeks with a natural blush. This is the color you flush when embarrassed or after a hard workout. Sweep color up towards your temples from under the center of your cheekbones.
-You can’t let the eyes go completely naked, but with a little definition will balance a strong lip. Keep it simple with a taupe shadow, light contouring and soft lashes. Ditch the heavy mascara for this look; brown, grey, or even eggplant mascara would work great though. For a little extra drama, define top lashes with gel or liquid liner and sweep up slightly for a cat eye effect.
- To prepare lips for stand-out color, exfoliate. There are several products on the market for just this purpose. Or, you can use a damp washcloth or toothbrush to the same effect.
-Apply thin layer of lip balm. Blot.
Color
Like I said earlier, a classic red lip will never go out of style. But how do you find the right shade for you. There are many contrary opinions in the field of color theory. The way I see it, the best way to find your perfect match is to experiment. Try shades you’ve never worn before. Berry, rust, brick, or scarlet, whatever your fancy, rock those hot lips with confidence.
-Line lips with matching or blending shade of lip liner. Fill in lips for extra staying power.
-Apply 1or 2 coats of lipstick with a lip brush. Blot between coats. A smudge of gloss on the center of the bottom lip makes lips appear fuller.
Alright gals, pucker up those perfect pouts and be your babe-a-licious self!
Until next time, be beautiful, inside and out,
-Micha
