Talented Businesswomen
By pleatedskirtguy, Thursday, January 14, 2010Catherine MacLeod chairs Bear Creek Mining, a Canadian company with activities in Peru. She's raised over $400 million for various such ventures. She co-founded Peru Copper and Arequipa Resources, which were afterwards taken over by bigger companies in mergers exceeding $2 billion. Ahh, mining. Often criticized over environmental issues. And those issues deserve to be taken seriously. If anyone is really against mining no matter what, look around. Your house/apartment is full of various metals, as is your automobile. I believe balance can be struck between the need for metals and justifiable avoidance of water pollution, polluted smelter gases, etc. And it is long since unacceptable to expose employees to unsafe conditions. Hear, hear, for socially responsible capitalism.
