Lure of the Lemon Pepper Chicken

I’m facing the big D word again, no not divorce - Diet! I had surgery back at the end of April and gained about 15 pounds as a result. I’ve been fighting the battle of the bulge my whole life. I guess I’ll be fighting it till the day I die.
I come from a squatty stock of Scotch-Irish, English descent. I’m five foot two and I have the shoulders of a linebacker. I’m built allot like my father’s mother. I never really considered her fat though because she was a farmer and she worked in her gardens and herded cattle until the day she died. She was a short scrappy muscle bound little woman who I had allot of love and respect for. I’ll bet she could’ve bench pressed her own weight back in the day.
However, I digress. Before I go down the healthy food path for the umpteenth time in my life, I wanted to write an ode to one of my favorite foods that I’m sure isn’t approved by Bob and Jillian.
I love the lemon pepper rotisserie chicken that you can buy at any Publix supermarket deli counter. I am transported by the smell of the just cooked chicken combined with the lemon pepper spices with which it is rubbed!
I love the site of it in its little adobe colored bag with the decorative golden swirls and the vents that allow the aromas out to tempt the shoppers.
Here’s the disgusting part, I love the grease that gets on my fingers when I’m pulling it out of its safe little hiding place in the box.
I love the slightly browned skin with spices still clinging to it and I love the luscious white steamy chicken underneath.
I love the side dishes that you can get with the “family meal”, the New York potato salad, the old-fashioned macaroni salad and the King’s Hawaiian sweet rolls.
I’m not a smoker, drinker or drug taker. I am a food lover! I must confess that I love the commercial for Julie and Julia when Julia Child’s husband asks her what she likes and she laughs in her quirky funny voice and answers, “Food! I love food.” God bless Julia Child and fellow food lovers everywhere!
