I Yam What I Yam

I Yam What I Yam!

I’ve had a rough couple of months when it comes to blogging. I’ve written several things; but, then at the last minute I pulled them back and didn’t post. You see, I was worried that if I gave my true opinion that I would be attacked. I wasn’t sure that I wanted to expose myself to that.

Last week, Kim posted a great piece about Adam Lambert. I wanted to respond so badly; but, I wimped out. I didn’t want anybody not to like me. Gag! I can’t believe that I still care about that at my age. Well, I stewed on it for awhile and decided that I needed to just grow a pair and be myself. If you like me, great!  If not, oh well. It’s not like we’ll ever meet in real life anyway.

When Cheryl introduced me months ago she called me a politico. I think that is a great description. My love of current events and politics began when I was a child and my father made me watch the “Evening News with Walter Cronkite” every night at dinner. At first, I resented it; but, after awhile I began to pay attention to what was going on and I was addicted. I literally can’t go a day without watching, listening to or reading what’s going on in the world.

Here’s the part many of you won’t like. I have voted Republican for most of my life and I’m not sorry about it. I do feel bad about that one vote for Bill Clinton. Damn, I thought he was a charmer back before I heard about Monica Lewinsky. I am also one of those evil uninformed people who watch Fox News. My favorite commentator on their channel is Charles Krauthammer. He has an incredible political mind. Oh and yes, I do listen to talk radio. My guy is Neal Boortz. He is a Libertarian and was recently inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame. He is syndicated and is on over 500 stations nationwide.

My favorite political book is Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. I believe that the Constitution is one of the most important documents ever written. I think terms like conservative and liberal are too confining. I hold views that will displease folks on both sides. I’m almost a Libertarian now; but, I don’t believe that drugs should be legalized. I do feel that the government should be minimal and should stay out of our lives most of the time. I’m pretty sure most Liberals won’t like that.  The Conservatives won’t like that I’m not sure how I feel about abortion. I also don’t think that somebody’s viewpoint on that should dictate everything about his or her political career.

Well, that’s enough for now. As you can see, I’m a pretty complicated gal. If you disagree with me fine. I am a firm believer in freedom of speech for everyone, including me. I was just getting tired of censoring myself out of existence.

P.S. In case you want to know, my opinion on the Adam Lambert thing is as follows. I don’t want to see anyone gay or straight do what he did on television. If it was on cable, okay you know what you’re signing up for there. Some people mentioned it was too late for kids to see it. Bull-hockey, many middle school and high school kids were probably watching.

I keep hearing Popeye's laugh... or is that a chortle...

Great blog, Bev! I love you just the way you are... we're all bound to be right or wrong, right? The best we can do is hold true to what we believe and keep our eyes, ears and hearts open to the possibilities of other points of view. And as for Adam Lambert, I saw him on "Ellen" yesterday and he said he regrets performing so "over the top" on his first public television appearance since American Idol. He said it was an error in judgment... and a "taste" issue. Well said! P.S. Welcome back. Don't be gone so long next time, dang it... "Trust Life's unfolding..."

~~~~~Bev, Hip Hip Horrayyyyyyyyyyy!  Diversity is what makes life interesting.  And YOU ARE INTERESTING.  Who wants everybody to think and act the same? Hell, I don't want to deal with a bunch of robots or sheep that follow one another like a bunch of fools.  I think I'm a conservative-democrat LOL  My hubby says I'm wishy-washy....that I don't have the nerve to take one side or another on abortion, gay rights, etc.... I just want people to make their own decisions, ya know?  I love that you have an opinon...even if it may differ with my own.  Oh, and the thing about Lambert....I agree, I don't want to see him giving blow jobs on national tv...(even if they are fake) GROSS.   But I loooooooove him.   Keep true to yourself.  Others will respect you for it.  Love to you and Kisses.  ~~Kim
Thanks Girls!
Thank y'all! I just couldn't hold it in any longer. I have to write how I feel. If I don't I think I will just explode! There'll be more to come because I luuuvvvv politics and current events. They really are my bailywick!
;)
I love this post Bev! I grew up and remain more left of liberal than right but was surrounded by the opposite. Like you, what would be my defined political affiliation now hinges more on each issue than following a herd. I know how tempting it can be to keep your opinion under wraps, but every women's voice and opinion are welcomed and needed here. That's what makes it a colorful, vibrant community. ;-) ~h
