About Me

Kids: No kids

Political Leaning: Liberal

Name: Liz

Occupation: Freelance Writer/Nursing Student

Education: BA in English from College of Charleston, BSN from Bon Secours Memorial College of Nursing(in progress)

Relationship Status: Single

More about Me: I tend to fall down a lot. I love the south. I will eat almost anything and eat it with delight. Traveling lets me breathe. I am over-analytic, over-articulate, and slightly neurotic. But I'm working on it.

Favorite Music: Band of Horses, Guster, Ben Folds, The Avett Brothers, The Shins, Frightened Rabbit, Noah and the Whale, Journey, The Killers, Katy Perry (for working out!)

Favorite Books and Writers: Dave Eggers: "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius" but also everything he does.
Michael Chabon: "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay"
J.K. Rowling: Harry Potter series
Nicholas D. Kristof, Sheryl WuDunn, "Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide"
Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin: "Three Cups of Tea"
Kurt Vonnegut, Mark Bowden, Gerald Durrell, and many, many others.

I can't live without: The usual suspects-family, friends, good dental hygiene. But also large glasses of wine at the end of the day, kick-butt gym workouts, TV, books, good food, good coffee, and TRAVEL. Did I mention wine?

I am most proud of: Traveling to Haiti to volunteer and help rebuild houses five months after the 2010 earthquake. The trip broke my heart, and profoundly changed my life.

I am most guilty of: Watching really bad television. I'm talking Housewives bad.

Words I live by: “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” A smart guy named Mark Twain said this. It was on the complimentary T-shirt provided at my freshman orientation in college. It's everything I believe in and everything I aspire to live by.

The world would be a better place, if only: People looked at the details of other people's lives around the world. The world in broad strokes is scary and easy to be apathetic over. The second you look more closely, whether through travel, education, or even reading a book, the world gets far less scary, and more importantly, it's much harder not to care. We all belong to each other on this crazy planet, and that's something everyone needs to realize.

Interests: I love health and fitness-running, yoga, the gym, healthy foods. I also love chocolate and wine and lots of both. I am a giant dork and love to read everything, from US Weekly to books about current affairs. I'm a TV junkie and watch a lot of it, even terrible reality shows about housewives. I love spending time with my friends in Richmond, and try to get back to Charleston, the most beautiful city in the world, as often as possible. I have a beautiful family, including a one year old niece who is my favorite person in the world. My life is full, and I am nerdy fan of almost every part of it.

Profession: Freelance Writer/Nursing Student

Slogan: Musings, ramblings, stories, and the occasional rant.

About Me: I am a writer and nursing student, born and raised in Richmond, Virginia and educated in beautiful Charleston, South Carolina. I like words, and I like to use words to make sense out of every moment in life, from the big to the small, the meaningful to the mundane. I am in my mid-twenties, single, but loving every moment of this ride, even if I don't know where it's taking me.
