About Me

Kids: Have young kid(s)

Political Leaning: Moderate

Name: Laura G Owens

Occupation: Writer

Education: College

Relationship Status: Married

More about Me: I'm a mother, writer, wife, seeker, former market research/marketing director. I had a daughter, stayed home and created new avenues. I'm 44 and believe the forties are the most peaceful decade I've hit so far, until I hit 50, then my 50's will be the most peaceful decade I've been waiting for all my life, then will come my sixties, and so on. You see where I'm going with this. Because if we have nothing to look forward to but regret, hating how we look, aching joints, yearning for the past and bitching about long lines, smile lines and hot flashes, what's the point of living? Really, what is the point? To make the spouse, kids and grandkids happy? I believe it's not our job to make others happy, it's our job to find our own. In that, our loved ones will notice our happiness and find the same. So while we work, manage, cook, clean, do, and move about, find joy, catch your thoughts, or, change how you move about. Aging, I think, is meant to be the door to finally feel the joy we've been watching and reading about in other people's lives. Now is the time to live your best self, and then next year, that will be the time. I think life works like that. And with that feeling, you will give good to others around you, always. -Laura

Favorite Music: Jazz, classic and soft rock, new age, pop.

Favorite Books and Writers: Anne Lamott, non-fiction books about natural health, human behavior, science, spirituality, autobiographies, a good escapist fiction now and then.

I can't live without: My daughter, husband, pug, exercise, good food/wine, light, nature, rest and writing.

I am most proud of: My daughter, husband, family, friends, writing, overcoming the hard stuff in life and remaining positive.

I am most guilty of: Talking too much, too loud and too fast.

Words I live by: There is nothing noble in being superior to some other person. True nobility comes from being superior to your previous self ~ Hindu Proverb

The world would be a better place, if only: People realized that using energy to convince others that they are more right, more smart, more rich, more ANYTHING, is less useful than quietly living their own joy. Be compassionate despite differences and seek joy, by default, more in your life will fall into place.

Interests: Travel, mind, body, spirit, natural health, social psych, motherhood topics. Seeking spirituality through blended beliefs. Science. How the world works, how and why people do what they. Dogs, (pugs in particular). Wine, great food, interesting cultures, new insights. Discovery. Feminist and female writings, humor, to laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh.
The Dalai Lama. Feeling calm, feel excited, feeling passion. Creation of thought that propels good stuff. Feeling good, finding joy. What else is there? Selfish you say? Yes I hope so. The most joyful, giving people I know are also the most filled in self. When we lack, we suck from others what we think we need. When we are full, we hand over the best of what we have.

Profession: Writer

Slogan: Decide you want to be happy, then do more of what that means for you. - Laura You can safely assume that you’ve created God in your own image when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do. - Anne Lamott There is nothing noble in being superior to some other person. True nobility comes from being superior to your previous self ~ Hindu Proverb
