viewsWinter in So Cal -- Part Two
By Laura Henneforth, Saturday, January 23, 2010, 3 comments
Um, yeah. So I blogged about droughts and 80 degree Januarys and what happened? The El Nino gods heeded my plea. Never knew I had such powers. A little whining makes for a wet week. But I’m not complaining, really, I totally enjoyed the change in the weather (aside from treacherous mudslides and dogs trapped in storm canals that put white water rapids to shame). Many times I have contemplated moving to coastal havens backing up into Lothlorien rainforests. Those fantasies have been placed in the vault for now. Instead, I discovered what a So Cal weather wimp I truly am and committed acts I normally scoff at, such as:
- Watch the local news nightly for updates
- Log on several times a day to get detailed forecasts (hour by hour, minute by minute)
- Grimace at the drops pelting my windshield (my wipers are blistered and cracked from all the sun)
- Wear wool socks.
- Contemplate time and place of outings (of which there were few)
- Wonder what happens to the confused hummingbirds and bees that were sipping from prematurely blooming flowers
- Realize cabin fever is a righteous disorder
It’s sunny out now. I will go forth. The foothills are snow-capped. Another storm is on the northern horizon.
Should make for an interesting next week…

Laura- I'm not sure where in
Laura- I'm not sure where in So Cal you are, but I'm in Camarillo and there is snow on the mountains which I can see from my front steps! It's wild. I know people knee deep in snow are shaking their heads at us, but this is definitely unusual. Fortunately, my lawn and plants look great since I have trouble remembering to water them- not typically a good thing in So Cal. Stay dry!
