Pie

I have issues. I know this comes as a shock.

What I have discovered, however, is I am preternaturally lazy. Difficult when there is a novel to revise, a house to clean, a job to tend to, a cat that needs scratching.

So my epiphany occurred a few weeks ago when I thought of life as Pie. Mouth watering pie...well, not the edible kind.
If I can make an appointment to get my nails done, can't I do the same for the things that are really important to me?

I know this sounds old-hat to many of you ladies, cuz you rock. For a neophyte like me, I'm super excited. So I gotta blog about it.

This morning after a late swing shift I woke a bit on the 'oogie' side with none of the 'boogie' to go with it. Don't know if it's the nascent cold, allergies awry or irritation from the dust storms I spun cleaning the ceiling fan yesterday. That sore thickness is sitting in the vicinity of my nasal passages and preparing to morph into a very plugged nose. And I get to go to work again tonight so hopefully my Neti Pot comes to my aid.

But the coolest thing about these little things is that the Pie idea is at work. I've been sectioning my day for a few weeks now. Strange how a cleaner house allows the muses to dance around easier. They became habit and despite this oogie blip on my radar, I’m still ready to go.

Devoting blocks of Pie to these small things helps my bigger picture. An hour gets the dishwasher unloaded, the clothes folded, the cat box cleaned and a drawer re-arranged. 20 minutes births several doodles with lots of spirit. A walk around the block takes maybe a half hour and awakens me for more novel revising.

I signed up for a Lino Cut class with a friend. That old art school thrill is returning as the ideas bubble out in my newest medium. In return it helps my writing. It gives me a break from the novel revising. And dusting gives me a break from both.

Suddenly, things seem more do-able. Even if I can only spare 5 minutes to read an article or 7 minutes to simply write, the minutes become a beautiful brought forth from all this Pie.

Wanna slice?
