Snowpocalypse 2011 Ends
By lastunicorngirl80, Monday, January 17, 2011After a week, the snow has finally melted in Atlanta, Georgia. Tomorrow, I will go back to a normal work day where I must wake up early, get dressed up, and stay for a full nine to ten hours. I am looking forward to seeing students and colleagues, but I must say, it will be an adjustment for me. I spent the earlier part of last week snowed in my apartment with my cousin. She came to Atlanta to take a boards test, which unfortunately got cancelled. However, we got to spend Sunday through Wednesday bonding over hot chocolate, tiny snow men, conversations about real life men, a movie about ideal men in the form of vampires and werewolves, attempted snow angels, leftover champagne, the Bachelor, Fringe and How I Met Your Mother Re-Runs, my cat TJ, and shared memories of our past. I had to do school work for about two to three hours every day, but when I was done, it was nice to have someone there to make me a hot chocolate and then help me enjoy bad TV. Often times, like many others, I pride myself in having a full calendar, almost as if it's a competition for who can schedule the most work and social events into a week. Yet the Snowpocalypse reminded me that sometimes, it's okay to take life as it comes, to not know what the next step is going to be. I didn't know when we were going to be able to make it out again, and honestly, there was some comfort in hibernating. There was a point where the lack of exercise and the same white walls got frustrating, but for the first few days, the extra hours of sleep and days of rest that we are supposed to have on the weekends, but ignore were comforting. I hope that people were able to stay safe and warm as I was. To me, the snow turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
