About Me

Kids: No kids

Political Leaning: Liberal

Name: Kat

Occupation: Freelance writer and dance educator

Education: MA (Dance Anthropology); BA (Dance and History)

Relationship Status: Single

More about Me: I like to date. A lot.

Favorite Music: Anything from Top 40 to classical. I especially love jazz, flamenco and a healthy dose of Puerto Rican rap every once in a while.

Favorite Books and Writers: In no particular order: Jane Austen, Jennifer Cox, Jenn Lancaster, Elizabeth Gilbert, George Eliot, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Sophie Kinsella, Marian Keyes and Fyodor Dostoevsky.

I can't live without: Chocolate, my lap top, my tap shoes and my passport. Also, I tend to get a bit stir crazy if I can't find something to write with/on.

I am most proud of: My Cafe Nero customer loyalty card. Nero is the London-equivalent of Starbucks so my loyalty card represents everything I'm the most proud of: my dog-eared passport and its multiple student visas, my MA (which I completed in London) and the coffee I was drinking when I received the email that turned me into an official freelance writer.

I am most guilty of: Getting so hung up on the past/future that I forget to enjoy the moment. I also tend to waste a lot of time worrying about my career and doubting myself.

Words I live by: The pen is mightier than the sword (at least, if I was brave enough to get a tattoo, that's what I'd get).

The world would be a better place, if only: Everyone was required to travel to a foreign country! We'd learn that there are alternatives to the way that we do things in the US, that Muslims and "illegal aliens" are people too, that it's not necessary to invade other countries simply to ensure the control of our oil sources. I credit my experiences in traveling, studying and living abroad with my increased capacity for tolerance and understanding and wish more people would be able to have these same experiences.

Interests: Men, foreign cities, textiles, Quakerism, dance and nerdy eighteenth-century dance notation.

Profession: Freelance writer and dance educator

Slogan: Why not?

About Me: I've just moved back to Philadelphia after a year and a half in London during which time I complete my MA in the world's most obscure subject: dance anthropology. I divide my time between writing and teach dance.
