Birding
By jginthe2, Wednesday, April 21, 2010I went bird watching the other day. In my creative nonfiction class, we are focusing on nature writing, and my professor had a student last year that loved birds. That student came into our creative nonfiction class and gave us a presentation over bird watching.
There's is this vocab word, The Jizz, which I thought was pretty hilarious. I know, I am being immature. But, The Jizz really is a vocab word for bird watchers. It is when the watcher can see a bird in the distance, and by its flight pattern and call, the watcher can tell exactly what type of bird it is.
Anyway, we went bird watching on campus for about ten minutes (it was freezing outside). I didn't see anything remarkable. The girl said you see the most action early in the morning or around 6 at night. All I saw were some crows, and heard some Mockingbirds.
But, this whole thing got me thinking. This girl came into our classroom to give a presentation about birding. I always thought birding was sort of a joke, like "really? you're going to sit there and just watch birds?" But, she explained why she really loves birding.
I guess the moral of this experience is that you should do what you love, even if some people think it's bizarre.
