Where Helping is a Good Deal
By jennymaxwell, Saturday, September 18, 2010So I found myself asking a former co-candidate for mayor: Do you think this shirt is too Grand Ole Opry? He looked at the blue checked boutique-label button down with the ruffled sleeves I'd tried on over my tank top and said, "Well...."
And there you had it. Welcome to a fun-filled evening of shopping with neighbors at the grand opening of Revente's Last Call.
I'm not using that word "neighbors" just to get that feel-good thing going. My next door neighbor Betty was there, as were nearly all the other people who live on my street. Those are two of my neighbors scoring bargains at right in the photo below. And yes, former co-candidates for Columbia mayor and consignment style mavens Aaron and Grant were searching the racks and trying on jackets.
If you haven't heard yet, Revente owner Debbie McDaniel has opened a new shop that meets two needs in one: it's the last stop for clothes that haven't sold in Revente's main store in Five Points and proceeds benefit The Women's Shelter. I've had some good luck buying other people's clothes from Revente over the years, and Revente's Last Call offered up some pretty good finds too, like the dress below, orginally from Goga, tags still on it.
Some people have told Debbie that the store is a little hard to find. Even though I live just a few blocks away, I have to say, I did not quite know where to look. So if you want to check out Revente's Last Call, it's on Millwood, in a building that angles slightly away from the street at the corner of Millwood and Butler, near The Mad Platter. The address is 3015 Millwood Avenue. There's more information on their Facebook page and a link to a map.
There are some great finds for very little money, but maybe the best part of the deal is that you help The Women's Shelter. The Women's Shelter provides homeless women with stability, through housing, job training and counseling. You can learn more about their work--and how you can support them in other ways--at womenshelter.org.
