Skirt-Friendly Transportation

I splurged on a Dutch-style bike a few months ago. Now, thank you Libya, it's seeming like a wise purchase.

Of course, I'm looking to justify the expense. I already had a perfectly good mountain bike. But I had visions of myself cruising around town in dresses and heels, a wicker basket on the handlebars. The good news is that, unlike some of my visions for myself (read: sailboat), this one is working out to be everything I thought it might be and more. Last week, I used my skirt-friendly lady bike to track down June's skirt of the month.

Finding a skirt of the month isn't always easy, though you'd think it would be. It can be a lot like when you go out shopping with a certain dress in mind. Right now, however, there are skirts aplenty around Columbia--even in boutiques that don't regularly carry them.

M Boutique on Devine Street is my case in point. This store always has adorable dresses but rarely skirts. Emily Garrett, who owns M Boutique, has told me her customers tend to go for dresses, because dresses are easy: one item and you're done. Right now, though, they have skirts....

....and lots of them. So, problem number one is solved. Now, to choose.....it has to work with the illustration on the page....

...so that tends to rule out maxi skirts like this, even though they're popular.  We also have to think about the styles of skirts we've used recently...

...so, though I liked this skirt a lot, it was too similar to something I'd used in the last year. But no problem, because the skirts kept coming...

.

I didn't choose any of these; I chose yet another--which you can see in a few weeks, when the June issue comes out. Meantime, if you've got a skirt-friendly bike and you're looking for something to wear when you ride it, as you can see, M Boutique is well-stocked to help you out.

City Bike

I asked for this style bike for my birthday last year.  And for Mother's day I got cool wire baskets that fit on the back.  I also have a "real" trail bike but I thought these looked so comfy and fun for just toolin' around.

(Too windy in Iowa for biking with a skirt though!)

Love

Love the bike & the skirts. Must have both...somehow. Hmmm. I have a comfort bike. Maybe I'll stick with the skirts until I can save up for the bike? We'll see.

I'm finding that when you

I'm finding that when you have a bike you can dress up to ride, even boring errands (bank drive-thru, for example) feel like little adventures.  Also, when you are sitting upright and pedaling very slowly, you wind up chatting with people along the way.  EB, I'm sure all your bike needs is a new skirt.   Mrwstudio-sometimes on windy days, I wear bike shorts under my skirt....
