By Jennmck48, Wednesday, February 9, 2011, 2 commentsAfter almost two years of working in a male dominated company, it still astounds me how the men do not respect the woman in management or other positions. Do you find this to be true?
My boss, who is a marketing manager is constantly left out of important meetings where marketing goals are discussed. She has brought it up to executives but alas, nothing has changed. It's not just her either. Even though it may be a company with more men than women, that should not matter. We know women are as capable as a man at anything.
This type of attitude comes from the top which is apparent to all the women who work there. The question is, how do you correct it? Can you? Is this type of thinking embedded in their work ethic?

Definitely true. I am management in a male dominated company and I promise you, I am tried everyday. What I have found is that you have to make them respect you, unfortunately, by being the 'b' word (this was taught to me by a male member of management who is a superior). But only when its necessary. They don't understand tears, etc., so you can never let them see that (in fact, it adds fuel to their fires), but you have to stand your ground and be willing to go toe to toe with them. It doesn't get better because you are battling an ego, something you can't see and something that doesn't rule us as women. In the interim, we also have to realize there has to be a little bit of penis envy going on in order to last in an environment like that and that is why the men we work with expect you to be able to take the pressure.
Better = standing your ground at work and crying at home. :)
