About Me

Interests: I love to read, write, cook, sew, and "soapbox." I tend to have a somewhat short attention span, and am very easily amused. I am interested in learning new ways to improve literacy, especially in underprivileged communities and within the juvenile justice system (I just don't where to look or how to get started.)I am interested in learning about other people, other cultures, other points of view. I am constantly trying to learn new things and would love to connect with new people (mainly women) to accomplish those goals. And to have people to let my hair down with, share a glass of wine with, and just have some fun with.

Profession: consultant / teacher

About Me: A long and windy road, with lots of backtracking has lead me to where I am now. I grew up on a dirt road in the middle of the woods in South Alabama. I attended the same small school from kindergarten through 12th grade. Perfect student, perfect child. Went to college about 30 miles away from home and fell apart (I had never been on my own or allowed to make my own decisions before). After spending 7 years in and out of college, I finally graduated with a degree in English, still not knowing what I wanted to do. Since then, I have gotten married, had a son, gone through several unfullfilling jobs, and struggled with severe bouts of depression and anxiety. I am happy to say, however, that I am now "reinventing" myself. I am trying to let the real me break free and be herself. I have my depression under control with medication that doesn't turn me into a zombie, I have a wonderful family, two adorable dogs, and an almost perfect job. I work for a private company teaching reading, building comrehension skills, and occasionally teaching math. I love to read, write poetry, sew and craft, and imagine the possibilities. I stumbled upon an ad for Skirt in Make It Mine magazine and decided to visit the website. It is beautiful, inspiring, and feels like home. So when are you going to come to Mobile, Al?
