Darryl Izzard Puts A Song In Our Hearts
By mrclinton, Monday, October 4, 2010“I transitioned from working to make a living to working to make a difference a long time ago,” Darryl says.
That’s a choice that benefits everyone who gets the pleasure of hearing the Benedict College Gospel Choir, the top gospel choir in the country. Darryl has been their director for 14 years. “Being nationally-ranked for seven years, it takes a team,” he says. “I get to challenge them to be the best.”
The choir recently recorded an a capella version of the hit “Hold My Hand” with help from Hootie and the Blowfish’s Jim Sonefeld. The song, sold through iTunes, is raising money for the Cooperative Ministries in Columbia. “We have been really excited about it—great voices, remembering the song—but bigger than all that is the cause,” Darryl says.
