Revisiting Me

This month has been one of the busiest, most hectic times in my life.  More chaotic than midterms in college, just about as crazy as having a newborn.  I can't remember ever being so involved in something that I was too wound up to eat (since I love food).  There have been at least seven days where I kissed my children goodbye in the morning while they were still asleep and came home to once again kiss them after they were already asleep.

I'm not so sure why in the midst of this "perfect storm" where all things in the domestic, professional and personal realm all seem to be radioactive, I've realized that I need "me time".  A few weeks ago when all the chaos broke loose I had the pleasure of meeting an old friend for dinner-alone-without my family.  It was wonderful on many levels; not just  because he was great company but because our encounter reminded me of the pre-family, "me" era.  A time when no one needed me. And as selfish as it sounds I miss that era.

It's been so long since I've made time to do something for me on a regular basis that it's hard to remember what those things are that restore my mojo.  Is it possible to give so much of yourself that there's none of yourself left for you? That's where I am right now.  A few months ago my blogging space was that spark my soul needed to keep going.  It's so disheartening to step back and realize that I've let it go by the wayside.   So my writing has been grossly neglected but in other news I have rediscovered my love for running.  Perhaps I'm not as far gone as I thought....

In all this I have discovered what it really means to make time for yourself.  When it gets to the point that you have to literally schedule "me time" you're already long overdue.
