My skirt! Interview
By Ginger, Tuesday, August 16, 2011, 13 commentsThings I didn't even know about myself...
Meet: Ginger Emas Schlanger
Right Now I'm Reading: Mockingjay (the last book in the Hunger Games series, my first entrée into Sci-Fi), re-reading The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver, and The NYT from two Sundays ago because I got it delivered to my hotel room while on vacation and can’t find the time to finish the damn thing.
My Lucky Charm: My real lucky charm is my family, my friends and their karma, so I carry around things that they have given me over the years. In my purse I have a smooth, oval stone one of my best friends gave me from her trip to Mexico; my oldest brother ripped a dollar bill in half about 20 years ago and I carry one half, he carries the other. A card with the number “3” on it from my other brother’s speaker auditions the year before I tried out. I don’t know if they bring me luck but I like knowing their energy is with me all the time.
Signature Scent: Someone once told me my face had a really nice smell (seriously!) but I don’t use fragrance very often, so I don’t have a signature one. Do freckles have an aroma?
One Item Always In My Purse: Tweezers. You will even see me on the road furtively plucking those errant chin hairs. Ugh. I hate them. All 200 of them.
Where I Get My Coffee: I went 49 years without drinking coffee. Then I went to Canyon Ranch and had The Most Delicious Coffee. I called the Ranch and tracked down its supplier to order some once I got home. I was addicted for a while, but now I drink it about once a month. It is organic coffee called Aroma Coffee of Santa Fe. I had to order six pounds of it, all beans. So guess what all my friends got for Christmas last year?
My Workout: Anything in a class format, because I am too damn lazy unmotivated to exercise alone. I do yoga, Pilates, kickboxing, spinning, weight class, Core Pole (my favorite) and Zumba (the secret to which is: don’t look in the mirror.)
Red, White or Beer? Beer, definitely. Although sounding like an expert on beer did not make a good impression on my first date after my divorce. J
I Looooove: Love. I love so many things/people/events/weather/food there should be different words for the level and type of love, like the Eskimos have. My son. My boyfriend. My big, fat, crazy, wonderful Jewish family. My ex (that should tell you a lot about me). My besties. People with a sense of humor. Kissing. Laughing. Dancing, especially to the 80s. Being on the lake. Chocolate. Babies. Reading. Hot showers. The journey. Thunderstorms (although I wish I had a screened porch to watch/listen to them). Being in love.
What makes me smile: Seeing my son smile. When things work out. Late-night goofiness and giggling with my family. What makes me laugh out loud? skirt!setters’ blogs when they take the most simple or complex topics and write about them in a way that’s sardonic, poignant, hilarious -- or all of the above.
I Can't Live Without: Laughing. Also my family … although I am having to learn to live without my father, as he loses more of himself to dementia/Alzheimer’s. My Atlanta family. Reading. Sweets. True Intimacy.
Reposting this note from skirt! webmaster Angelia: “I'd like to invite you to share ten things with your fellow skirt!setters. Blog your own skirt! interview with the items above or come up with 10 new ones.”

Advice I was once given...
Ginger,
A dear friend, much
olderwiser than myself once offered a tidbit of advice I´d like to share. She said, `Have a daughter or hang around with younger friends. Because a son will never pluck the hairs out of your chin when you are in the nursing home and your same-aged girlfriends won´t be able to see them!Your interview reminded me how much fun life is!
Cheers!
