About Me
Kids: Have young kid(s)
Relationship Status: Committed Relationship
Name: Ginger
Occupation: Former National Web Editor, skirt!; also writer, author, mother
Education: College
More about Me: I adore my son. I am in a relationship with a wonderful man (who made me an accidental Cougar). I love to cry at movies. I also cry at life insurance commercials.
Favorite Music: James Taylor. Bonnie Raitt. Meatloaf.
Favorite Books and Writers: Wow. It's usually whatever one I happen to be reading at the time. The Red Tent. Prodigal Summer. Labor Day. Of Mice and Men. The Talisman.
I can't live without: Hot showers. Truly. I think about the question: If you were stranded on an island, what would you miss most? I usually think about this while I'm taking my morning shower. So, well, you know. Also can't live without love.
I am most proud of: My parents. I think the feeling is mutual. I am also extremely proud of my son, but I don't think I can really take credit for that, he was born the way he is. My son would not say he is most proud of me, probably; but he has said he is really proud that his divorced parents are such good friends. (He'll need therapy about this later.)
I am most guilty of: Eating sweets. A lot. Sometimes instead of meals.
Words I live by: Words I try my best to live by: Speak from your heart.
The world would be a better place, if only: Chocolate was as good for you as, say, kale. Or maybe if kale tasted like chocolate. AND was still good for you.
Interests: Avid reader from Stephen King to Barbara Kingsolver to Anne Lamott to William Golding to Stockard, Mitchard, Corrigan, Cleave, Austen -- it's like the Oscars, there's no way I could thank everyone who is an author for giving me the joy of reading ever since I picked up Dick and Jane. I love anything that you can do in the sun and on the water. I adore children, even when they grow up. My favorite thing to do is laugh and, if I'm being totally honest, make other people laugh, too. Usually it's at my expense, so stay tuned for what I lovingly call, "Stupid Ginger Stories."
Profession: Writer/editor

About Me: Former National Web Editor for skirt!, a job that, gleefully, does not require me to actually wear a skirt so expect to see me wearing my jeans as much as possible. I've worked with skirt! for years and have been a skirt!setter since the beginning. I like to call the community my skirt-SISTERS. I'm kinda geeky that way, but I sometimes feel as if I know more about my skirt!sisters -- most of whom I've never met -- than I do about friends I've had for years. Because when you blog, you reveal emotions, vulnerabilities and questions -- deep thoughts that perhaps would best be told to a therapist -- and cover topics we don't have on a daily basis with our non-virtual girlfriends. I like that glimpse into other peoples' lives that lets me learn from their experiences and reminds me that we're basically all in this together. I've owned my own business as a corporate communications writer for nearly 20 years, having gone out on my own after working as an editor and script/speechwriter for IBM. I consider myself very lucky to do the work I love. I did not, however, get other creative abilities. On the back of my business card it says, "It's a good thing she can write 'cause she sure can't draw" -- and my art director wrote that! In 2007 I wrote my first article for skirt!, and before I knew it I was the author of Back on Top: Fearless Dating after Divorce (c May 2009, Globe Pequot Publishing/Morris Communications). I am also the former host of Book Talk with Ginger on America's Web Radio, which always made me ask the same question I ask at home every night when I'm picking up dirty laundry off the floor: "Is anybody listening to me?" If I had to pick one word as my personal theme it would be love.
