Little Miss Sassy Pants

Have you ever been burned, I mean given a verbal smack-down, by a four-year old who doesn’t even have enough years behind her to know what she has done? Well, I never had until last night. My husband and I were talking at dinner when my youngest daughter held up her bowl and said, “Can I be done?” I glanced at the bowl and said, “Take two more bites.” She scowled at me and said, “Daddy controls me.” Then she slowly shifted her eyes up at my husband, as if written into her Hollywood script and repeated, “Daddy, can I be done?” She rendered me speechless for a brief moment . It was a sort of unspoken victory for sassy four-year olds everywhere…but that didn’t last long, because then, just as in a fairytale with a sweet ending, my knight in shining armor…my rock… my partner in crime then firmly stated, “Two more bites and you can be done.” Of course it took a bit of restraint on his and my parts not to break out in full-blown laughter. After all, it was rather comical (but we couldn’t let her know that)! Great, sweet victory for ‘Team Parents!’ We stand united.

That's too funny! It's hard
That's too funny! It's hard to keep a straight face when they do that.
Well done!

Two points for the husband!!
Two points for the husband!! I have such admiration for parents. I'm pretty concerned about my ability to keeping my roaring laughter confined to my thoughts and my heart when my future children's little mouths spew forth hilarity.
