Girls’ Weekend…Continued!
By GinaV, Friday, March 6, 2009, 7 commentsOur “girls’ weekend” was a blast!
We were ten ladies brought together by our commonalities: wife and mother. But last weekend, we were just ladies. Ladies in need of a break. Ladies looking to unwind and have some fun.
At the start, some of us were mere acquaintances, others had known one another for years. Friendships quickly developed over jokes told, quirks revealed, secrets shared. We laughed, we listened and we laughed some more. In the end, we all learned new things about each and every lady in the group.
Some of us skied and danced, some hit the spa and gambled. When we reunited at the condo, some cuddled under blankets on the couch, some grazed on snacks at the table. We found ourselves in the cozy ambiance of the living room, absorbing heat from the fireplace, taking in the wintry views outdoors and enjoying the entertaining stories from one another. It was so amazingly relaxing and pleasant.
Saturday morning, we woke to below zero temps. Not what I would consider “skiing weather.” Thankfully, my fellow ski buds agreed that it was too cold to venture out. Divine intervention bonded us over frigid temperatures for an extra three hours. A brilliant time for fellowship.
That evening, several of us went dancing at the resort bar that hosted a live band. It was the most opportune time for “people watching,” (even more so, than watching skiers tumble below me while sitting high above on a chairlift.) I always find it highly entertaining to watch a mix of alcohol and untrained dancers cut loose on a parque floor with live music. Quite a cheap form of entertainment. Absolutely hilarious!
Sunday morning arrived too soon. Over coffee and a delectable spread of pancakes, breakfast meats and fruits, we dreaded our departure. We shared each others’ feelings of gloom. Of course we missed our families, but we all seemed to have adjusted rather easily to the relaxation and freedom from constant multitasking.
On the journey home, I realized my throat was scratchy, my cheeks ached and abs were sore. The pains weren’t from a cold developing, not a bad tumble down a black diamond run, oh no, just repercussions of a weekend spent laughing, laughing and laughing some more.
We were sad to part ways because the fun was so FUN! But when I stepped out of the truck in my driveway and bid my ski buds farewell, I turned to walk into my house when the front door popped open, and I was greeted by my beautiful daughters and amazing husband. What a great way to come home…six open arms and one revitalized mom!
(Of course, we all agreed: same weekend next year!)
[Oh, skirt!buds, I know…where’s the REAL detail? If only I could divulge details about: Marvin, the cat lady, hit tallies and window dancing. If only I could share specifics of our impromptu fieldtrip in Mt. Pleasant. Unfortunately, what happens in Mt. Pleasant…stays in Mt. Pleasant!]
Just plan a girls’ weekend and execute it…you won’t regret it!!!
