Ever Wonder Who's Reading Your Skirt Blog?

Besides the lovely ladies of this community, I didn’t think many people were reading.  My posts get 50 - 100 views and I only occasionally get a comment or two.  So basically not a lot of poeple.  Well it turns out it might not be a lot of people but it just could be the right people.

On  December 11th I wrote a blog post entitled: Yes, Virginia there is a Santa Claus.  My post was about starting a movement here in the US much like the one that’s happening right now in France to force women’s magazines to label images that have been altered in an effort to to destroy the illusion of female perfection that women are bombarded with everyday in the media by reminding them that the images are fake.  I talked about my wish for having someone in the U.S. government get behind this cause and how I found out via  a letter to the editor of the NY Times that there was in fact a group that was doing just that.   The Women’s Therapy Centre Instititue is instrumental in bringing awareness to the public mental health crisis facing girls and women in relation to their bodies and self-esteem.   In my blog post, I said that I would contact them so that I could be part of their efforts.  I was planning on contacting them after the holidays but on December 30th I got this e-mail from them:

Dear Cathy,
We at the Women's Therapy Centre Institute (WTCI) read your inspired December 11th blog post, "Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus", on skirt.com. We applaud your efforts to bring attention to the media's role in creating a pathogenic ideal of the female form and a hostile environment for girls and women attempting to live in their bodies.  We are grateful for your expression of support for the WTCI and enthusiastically welcome your participation in this spirited international effort to combat our culture's attack against the female body.

We would like to extend an invitation for you to join us at INDWELLING IV: Living In A Female Body: The Project Continues, on Saturday, February 6, 2010. INDWELLING represents a part of our campaign to bring awareness to the public mental health crisis facing girls and women in relation to their bodies and self-esteem. You can obtain more information regarding the event at http://www.wtci-nyc.org/.

I nearly fell off  my chair after reading that e-mail.  I could not believe that they found me and it’s all thanks to Skirt!  So ladies, keep blogging, you never know who’s reading.

I would like to extend an invitation to all of you that are in the NY area to come and attend INDWELLING.

This is a public event that is happening on Saturday, February 6th.  If anyone wants to attend, we can go together, feel free to e-mail me and we can make arrangements to meet up.
