Wisdom Nuggets from "Make Every Man Want You"

A couple of weeks ago, skirt! setter MelissaB wrote a post about what she had learned from the book, Make Every Man Want You: How to Be So Irresistible You’ll Barely Keep From Dating Yourself! by Marie Forleo.  She mentioned that the book was less about getting men and more about “being the best you.”  I was immediately intrigued because I looove this type of book.  I’ve read several of a similar nature that I’ve loved:  Lucky in Love: 52 Fabulous, Foolproof Flirting Strategies, One for Every Week of the Year; Mr. Right, Right Now!; He’s Just Not that Into You, and another by the same author of HJNTIY: It’s Just a Date.  To the outsider, it might look like I’m desperate for a man, but I just love the messages in these books about living your life with gusto and being the most fabulous person you can be.

Of course I went out and read Make Every Man Want You and loved it, so I wanted to compile a few wisdom nuggets from the book that I didn’t want to forget.  Here they are:

“Victimhood is prohibited.”  If you see yourself as a victim, life is one big self-fulfilling prophecy.

“A relationship will not save you.”  You are whole and complete right now, and a relationship will just be a bonus.  Forget Jerry Maguire…although that is a great film. :)

“This is it.”  This one was huge for me.  This moment is all we have in life—this is it.  Stop living like “this isn’t it,” like one day you’ll do the things that you’ve always wanted/needed to do for yourself: dress better, eat better, meet new people.  Don’t stop writing that blog post because you think what’s coming out isn’t good enough and in the future it will be- THIS IS IT!  That last sentence may or may not have been about me and this post. ;)

“Your thoughts about men affect the way they behave toward you.”  Here Forleo mentions a book called The Hidden Messages in Water in which the author, Dr. Masaru Emoto, scientifically proves that thoughts can affect physical objects.  “He discovered that frozen water labeled with loving thoughts like ‘gratitude’ and ‘thank you’ and ‘I love you’ had beautiful, symmetrical, complex snowflakelike molecular patterns with vibrant color tones.  In contrast, water exposed to negative thoughts like ‘I hate you’ and ‘You make me sick’ had incomplete, distorted, asymmetrical patterns with dull and muddy colors.”  Nuff said!

“Drop your story.”  Everyone has their own personal story that shapes the way they view their life.  If we always bring our story into new interactions with people, it can color how we see everything and prevent us from experiencing things in a fresh way.

So there ya have it-- there are many more fabulous concepts in the book, but these are the ones I really didn't want to forget.  I agree with MelissaB—I’m looking forward to taking what I've learned and embracing my irresistibility!
