It's the Simple Things
By figmentcat, Sunday, August 22, 2010Tonight, after about two weeks on the road thus far for our cross-country road-trip, my boyfriend, Rob, and I hit the laundry wall. In other words, we needed to clean our clothes, and washing them out in a hotel sink and scrubbing with hotel soap just wasn't going to cut it one more time. So we searched for "laundromat" on our GPS and stumbled upon one near our hotel in Helena, Montana, where we are for the evening. We each brought something to read and commenced to our task at hand.
It took just under two hours to wash and dry our clothes, but by the time we were folding our clean apparel, we both found ourselves a little perkier. I even remarked that I "enjoyed" that. Not the laundry, but the simplicity of just being in one place and doing one thing. It was quiet, only two or three other people coming and going with their laundered goods. There was something about the stillness and quietness that centered me. Rob and I have been go-go-go on this road-trip, and I think we're already fighting off a little bit of fatigue. It was nice to do one thing and one thing only (give or take a magazine or two) and not feel rushed. Now, this isn't to say I'm going to be seeking out a new laundromat every chance I get on this trip. But, apparently, we're both needing to be reminded of the importance of slowing down on this trip. We have jam-packed a lot of to-do's on our list, and I think we now need to pencil in some do-nothing's.
Any suggestions for how to relax while on the road?
— Catherine :)
