Camping is Fun?
By figmentcat, Sunday, August 22, 2010, 1 commentsI'm finally in a hotel room after 3 straight nights of camping in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Rob and I are in full swing of our two-month road-trip, and I knew, of course, going into it that camping would be at least a 50% part of this adventure. But 3 nights straight? In 40-degree weather? It's been rough, but I've done my best not to fall into an abyss of whining and complaining. I have to admit that I do actually kind of like waking up to the fresh morning air and feeling like we're pretty close to nature (and all the rest of that good naturalistic stuff.)
But, wow, does my neck hurt, and my shoulder, and both my hips no matter what side I toss and turn to while nearly smothering myself into my sleeping bag to stay warm. And by about mid-way through day 2, I was feeling pretty disgusting hygeine and appearance-wise. The water in the campground's bathroom facilites was a little to icy to do anything but rinse off and get out of there. Rob loves everything about camping, and I think I've done an okay job of trying to get into it, too. But until I can get an airbed in the tent with a portable bathroom, I don't know if I'm ever going to be 100% into it myself.
On this particular camping excursion, I noticed just how many people have RVs and portable campers. It definitely seemed to be the majority. I've never pictured myself as the motorhome/RV-type, but I think after this trip, Rob and I should start saving up for one. That way, he can still be close to nature and get a big, new toy, and I can have a bed, a nearby bathroom, and hopefully less cricks and creaks all over my body.
