In August 2008, Derek Black, the then 19 year old son of former KKK grand wizard, Don Black, won a little noticed election for a Republican Executive Committee seat in Palm Beach County, Florida.
Don Black runs the racial hate Web site, StormFront, which is operated out of the West Palm Beach house where Derek lives with his parents. His mother, Chloe Black, is the former wife of white supremacist politician David Duke. Young Mr. Black and his father engineer radio broadcasts for David Duke's white nationalist internet site.
The Republican Party is trying to have the win invalidated because Black hadn't signed the loyalty oath before the June deadline. Derek Black has stated that he is not giving up the fight for the seat he won in the election and is threatening to sue the county GOP. He said that the intention is to reshape the Republican Party by winning small positions across the country. To that end, Mr. Black took to the airwaves a few weeks ago, paying $275 for one-hour slots on 1340 WPBR-AM.
Now 20, Derek Black professes not to be a racist, yet he cannot vocalize differences between his own beliefs and those of his father and the Klan. At the age of twelve, Derek wrote a children's page for his father’s website, which promoted white supremacy. The story was featured in USA Today. At that same tender age, he appeared in the HBO documentary, Hate.com.
When asked his opinion of our recent presidential elections, Black said, “I don’t expect in four years to be living in a wasteland of burning tires and homeless people, but, for me, Obama is one step away.” In his radio spiel, he will emphasize his “own personal demographic and immigration concerns which are not talked about by any other public voices."
An average looking fellow with shoulder length red hair, high cheekbones and grey eyes, Derek Black loves country music and has an encyclopedic knowledge of reptiles, amphibians and fish. He is enamored of country singer, Taylor Swift. Seems innocent, doesn't he? Yet, beneath his smiling demeanor is a budding racialist waiting to step into the limelight.
How did Derek Black get elected? The answer is simple. As in so many elections, the voters saw only the superficial -- an appealing young man speaking in generalities on issues that interested them. They failed to ask questions. They weren't concerned with what his answers might be.
How many other elections are being won this way? How deep does the infiltration go?

Interesting
This is very interesting. I'm amazed that this man got elected. How did this one fall through the cracks? I don't think enough Americans are paying attention to what's going on around them politically. The tendency to blow off elections for the smaller positions is all too common, and a mistake. While no one's looking, people like Derek Black do just what he's proposing, by winning smaller positions around the company. Don't underestimate the effects of these little fish. They may eat a little in this pond or in that pond, but eventually these fish grow. Great piece, Donna.
Hearing is not listening
When I read about Black being elected, it made me realize how many people go to the polls not knowing the candidates or what they stand for. They click a lever based solely on the sound of someone's name or the cuteness of his/her smile. If white supremacists or extremists of any ilk continue to win small posts that people consider unimportant, it won't be long before they move unnoticed into the more important positions.
The fault really lies with the people. Black made the rounds of small, neighborhood gatherings and talked to the people in a roundabout way about issues, like immigration and the then upcoming presidential election. He kept a low profile and never actually stated his position. The Hispanic community, one group he hates, supported him. Had they bothered to read about this young man, they would have learned that he describes himself as "a white person who is concerned about discrimination against white people."
His victory was truly an example of the ignorant electing the hateful. Hispanics and blacks have nothing to gain by voting for a man who wants to see them "sent back where they came from." Neither ethnicity fits the image of the Aryan Nation. This is a case of ignorance not being blissful. Too many people, educated or not, only hear but do not LISTEN to the meaning behind the spoken word.
Here are some interesting facts: Black won by a 58% margin - 167 votes out of 287. The population in District 29 (Black's jurisdiction) is diverse with a large congregation of immigrants and gays. These are the very people that Black speaks out against.

All this throwing around "scare terms" like KKK this and supremacist that ignores the fact that in a multicultural country, whites have a right to advocate for their race just like the other races do.
What is the white equivealent of the NAACP or the ADL or La Raza? Those groups are all tax exempted and given official approval. White people try to have a voice and get smeared, and robotic-minded parrots ignorantly join the smear.
Why don't you see what we talk about at Stormfront, instead of just parroting smear terms? Maybe you'll find we have a point. Television has trained people to think very rigidly. no, "The View" is not the fount of all wisdom. There's a such thing as thinking for yourself. You should try it some time.

It seems this particular story has struck a nerve with you. I don't believe anyone here is attacking Derek Black per se. The issue is not whether or not whites have the right to exist. The issue is how Derek Black got elected. Unfortunately voter ignorance is a big problem. Unless people follow a candidate's platform in smaller elections, many will vote strictly based on party affiliation or where the candidate stands on one major issue. Past that, who's taking the time to learn about a candidate's positions on the smaller issues? I don't know. I've heard so many people say, "I've never heard of half the people on the ballot," after they finish voting.
It's not hard to leave out the less popular and smaller issues if you're trying to sway voters by speaking on only the hot button topics, especially in the low income or ethnic communities. Tell the people what they want to hear on what matters most to them, and you've got their votes.
Ignorance runs rampant in this country when it comes to politics. I've seen average citizens stopped on the streets and asked who the current vice president is. Countless numbers of people have no clue. Maybe the real issue is educating the voters before the election.
