Let the Internet get your through your sick day ... or your work day.

Tis the season ... no, not for Jingle Bells and wrapping paper. For getting sick.
Yes, I'm home sick today, which is a hell of a lot less fun that it was in elementary school. I'm mostly just laying on the couch, praying I feel better in time for a work trip I have to take tomorrow (which I actually really want to go on). I already caught up on Gossip Girl and Greek, finished the book I was reading (Crossing California by Adam Langer ... highly recommended), and made myself some mac n cheese for lunch. The dog isn't much fun ... she doesn't want her busy schedule of afternoon napping to be interrupted.
So I took to the Internet. Found some stuff to post on DerbyGirlBlog, watched some YouTube videos, played with some writing prompts (to prep for NaNoWriMo), and found some pretty fun websites.
Oh, you'd like to know some time-wasting, sick-day websites too?
OneWord gives you ... well ... one word, and only a minute to write whatever pops into your head about that one word. The best part is that when your time is up, you get to see what other people wrote about that word and how they interpreted it. They change the word each day, which means you can't spend your whole day waxing poetic.
Some of my old supervisees at Emerson College introduced me to Sporcle, a great time waster. Think you can name all the US States? US Presidents? How 'bout all the 3 letter body parts, the countries of Europe, or all The Simpsons characters? Ok, maybe you can... but how fast? I apologize now for all the time you will lose on Sporcle.
Just remember ... you don't have all the money in the world. That's why your apartment is furnished with things you picked up on the street and clearance items from Ikea. If you did, your apartment might look like this.

Tumblr is an amazing community. DerbyGirlBlog is hosted there, and it is absolutely my favorite blogging platform. But if you're not on Tumblr, you only see the surface. You don't get to see the conversations that happen underneath all the posting. You don't get what a "reblog" is, and you don't get where all those comments came from on a post. Get a Tumblr. Start by following some of these (they're like the training wheels of Tumblr), then branch out and find some other interesting people or Tumblrs to follow. Your Internet life will never be the same.
