I'm fine...really
By dburke, Monday, January 23, 2012“I’m fine. “ Why is that when you say this to your guy, they immediately think something is wrong? Isn’t it possible that you actually are fine, that everything’s hunky dory and you’re doing great? Why is it that when we as women say this phrase, men automatically think that something’s wrong. Granted, sometimes something is wrong and we just want you to leave us the hell alone so we can stew and be by ourselves. Other times, it may mean that we’re upset with you, and we hope by telling you that we’re fine, you’ll go away. But there are times we say it that we actually just mean it. Why can’t you tell the difference?
I know this may seem like a completely unnecessary rant, but my boyfriend kept asking me this question yesterday, and it was getting on my last nerve. He was like you seem distant today babe, everything ok? I’m sitting here thinking, “No, everything’s not okay, you keep plucking me and I just want to strangle you!” But of course, all I say is “I’m fine,” hoping that’ll get him off my case. And I actually was fine. I wasn’t mad at him or having a bad day or secretly wishing he’d go away and leave me alone. I was a little quieter than usual so automatically that means that something is wrong. Sometimes, fine simply means…fine.
Happy Monday all!
