gaining perspective

I stumbled upon the NieNie Dialogues today. I remembered reading about Stephanie Aurora Clark Nielson and her husband’s plane crash last year and it was one of those moments where you think “what if that happened to me?” I saw the “I read NieNie” badge on one of my blog commentor’s site today and thought: “Oh! The couple that was in the accident!” I wanted to understand immediately what had happened and how they are doing. I’ve spent the last two hours doing just that and I’m deeply touched by their story, their faith, their strength. I also feel a bit ashamed that I would lament over such things as bills, work, my less than stellar physique, my own small pains (gasp! dry winter skin and a zit!) that seem so small compared to what this family has already endured. I am grateful to them for the perspective they have provided me with.
