A Facelift For My Life
By cgifford, Friday, February 25, 2011As I move closer and closer to my birthday, a time when I reflect on the last year, I've realized it's time for a facelift. For my life. I'm not a fan of change. I like the security of knowing that things are consistent, schedules are met, and people are the same. Don't get me wrong, I do love switching things up a bit every now and then, but adding a few more lowlights to my blond mane doesn't win the award for shocking.
So I decided to do something big. Move. For the past five years I've lived comfortably in Annapolis, Maryland, a boat town with the Naval Academy the center of attention. I've become friends with so many people, made so many connections and networks, and have really built a fun life here. But now that I'm, (yikes!) about to be 25, I've realized I want more out of my life. I want to create an even better life for myself and for what I want to get out of it.
It's time for a rejuvenation! Out with the old, in with the new! For me, less has always been more. I would rather have a few good, solid pieces of clothing, furniture, cookware, then to have lots of cheap stuff. With that, I have exfoliated my life. I've been getting rid of things I don't want/use/or need, and donating them to the Salvation Army, handing them down to my sister, or throwing out the things that can't be used or worn. This simple act of "exfoliation" has been such a weight lifting experience. I now know EXACTLY what I own.
Now that I will be moving to Charleston, I am excited to reinvent my life. To give it a boost if you will. I am excited to try new things, meet new people, and learn more about myself. I've always thought that if you're not scared to try something new or completely out of your comfort zone, you're not fully living. Well, let me tell you, I'm ready to fully live!
