Sending Up Prayers...
By Mother_Blogger, Thursday, February 9, 2012When I was 19 years old my parents sold the only house I had ever lived in, in my home state of Maryland, and moved back to their home state, North Carolina. My daddy's bought his dream house. A beautiful log house situated on a nice little acre of land that, during the winter months, offered a view of Stone Mountain from the back deck. Suddenly I went from being a "city girl" to living, quite literally, in the middle of chicken country, USA. You see, most of the people that live on Wiles Ridge Road up in Wilkes County, North Carolina raise chickens for Tyson.
Hand Wash Cold: Care Instructions for an Ordinary Life
By Nikki Hardin, Publisher skirt!, Monday, February 6, 2012It’s easy to think that meaning, fulfillment, and bliss are “out there,” somewhere outside of our daily routine. But in this playful yet profound reflection on awareness, the compelling voice of a contemporary woman reveals the happiness at the bottom of the laundry basket, the love in the kitchen sink, and the peace possible in one’s own backyard. Follow Karen Maezen Miller through youthful ambition and self-absorption, beyond a broken marriage, and into the steady calm of a so-called ordinary life.
Ali in Wonderland: And Other Tall Tales
By Margaret Pilarski, Editor, Monday, February 6, 2012Growing up in a family of political journalists—and daughter of President Reagan’s White House social secretary—Ali Wentworth rebelled against her blue-blood upbringing, embracing Hollywood, motorcycles, even a few wildly inappropriate marriage proposals. Today she is an acclaimed comedic actress and writer, former Oprah regular, wife of political and media star George Stephanopoulos, and a mother who lets her two girls eat cotton candy before bed. Though she’s settled down, her rebellious nature thrives in her comedy and her view of her crazy world.
February 2012 Aurascope
By PsychicMaryBeth, Sunday, February 5, 2012Ah the month of February! One would think roses, hearts and candies when it comes to the color association to this month but this is also a time when Earth’s Northern Hemisphere begins to slowly tilt back into the direction of the warming sun causing the blue auric glow from January to gentle simmer, creating a frothy bubbly white gray aura with streams of red (indicating our thoughts of Valentine’s Day) and a glisten of gold as the sun peeks through the grayish backdrop indicating warmer days ahead.
Crazy College Nights (or how I came to read at open mic night)
By ReneeCK, Sunday, February 5, 2012, 1 commentsThe first time I was in college, once we got through the obligatory first semester, we were able to plan it so we didn’t have classes on Friday, leaving us with a lovely three day weekend that started on Thursday night.
Risky Business, Footloose and Other Spontaneous Random Acts of Silliness
By workin4shoeswine, Friday, February 3, 2012It is not unusual for me to break out into spontaneous song and dance in the following places: my bedroom, my bathroom, the shower, the kitchen (with a fabulous glass of wine), my office, the car, running down Peachtree Street in the mornings. You've probably seen me if you drive through South Buckhead into Midtown. Yes, that's me! It's the city, I blend in with the other crazies. I grab the closest hairbrush or ladle microphone and do my best Steve Perry, Bono or Pat Benatar impression. I bust out my Dance Fever moves and moonwalk, robot or running man my way across the floor.
Thank you Don Cornelius
By FranneS, Thursday, February 2, 2012Don Cornelius I can’t stop thinking about you. The news said you passed away but it wasn’t until I read the newspaper this morning that I realized you took your own life. Some may consider that a selfish act but something tells me in your case you knew something the rest of us didn’t. Did you have a terminal illness?
A few things I've realized.
By lkm824, Wednesday, February 1, 2012Life is crazy sometimes. This year I've been thinking a lot (rather than doing things I should be doing, like homework) and I've discovered a few things.
Things I'm realizing -
Opportunities are nothing if you don't take them.
Valentines with girl friends will be just as fun.
God has perfect timing.
