Oh, No She Didn't!
By BostonSass, Wednesday, June 3, 2009Hey Skirts,
So I totally watch The Real Housewives on Bravo. (I added the "so" and "totally" to sound flighty...did it work?)
I know there are lots of other women who tune into this show and I don't usually blog about it but one episode - scratch that - one comment really struck me.
LuAnn de Lesseps, otherwise known as the countess, has a cute live-in housekeeper Rosie who practically raises the family herself. She told Bethany: "you have to fit into his lifestyle" when giving her advice on men/love. Bethany is very successful, outspoken and driven.
Rosie, WTF?
Why should women fit into a man's lifestyle? Why should women apologize for their success? Why should women fit into anything other than their favorite pair of jeans or a new Skirt! (ha) Women, just like men, are fully capable of choosing what goes into their day to day. They don't have to stand there and wait for Master to approve.
Hey Rosie Rose, I'd love it if you could tell me or name one other woman who is genuinely happy about this "fitting into his lifestyle" crap. How long would that last?
A woman's voice or wishes should never go unnoticed. Shame on you for ever putting yourself second. Sure, it's in our nature to be nurturing and feed all of the hungry mouths before our own, but it's 2009 kids. Hasn't anyone learned that if the lady of the house isn't happy then changes must be made! Rosie, take off that apron and have LuAnn's spoiled children cook you a nice meal! LuAnn could do the dishes!
I'd love to sit down with Rosie and ask her when she allowed herself to become quiet? What made her think that she needed to accommodate and lose herself in the process?
Relationships are all about compromise and learning from one another.
In my own relationship, when I'm worrying a little too much (who? me?) Randy listens, gives advice and is very calming. It didn't take us very long to figure out that we have a different approach, hence the whole men are from mars, women are from venus theory, but he knows that I ain't no shy gal.
Rosie, if you are reading this, demand to be heard! Your voice is your power. Never lose sight of that.
Ahh, I feel a little better now. :)
