Laser treatments and life is unfair
By Sara Conrad, Thursday, September 10, 2009, 3 commentsI had my first vitiligo XTRAC laser treatment today. I put on the t-cream before I went in, which you are not supposed to do...but I didn't know. So, we did the laser thing anyway, even though there was a higher risk of me burning because of the reflective cream. I also found out that no, you are not supposed to get sun for 15 minutes three times a week with vitiligo. In fact, you are supposed to stay OUT of the sun, especially when being treated with immuno-suppressant creams and lasers. I was given samples of SPF 55 to spread over my vitiligo after the laser treatment so I didn't further disturb the cells attempting to repigment.
The laser didn't hurt, but it did feel hot, and all my vitiligo patches turned bright pink with burn several hours after the treatment--except those patches on my feet. My hands are mostly okay except for some slight burns. The skin stings where it's been burned and it might blister. Hopefully it won't though, because that delays treatment; I won't be able to use the t-cream or get laser treatment if I'm blistered, obviously. The pigment will come back darker and probably look kind of scary, until it fades into my normal skin color, if all goes as planned.
